Families often ask me, What happens if someone dies without a plan in place. The first thing that
happens is that your family is asked what funeral provider you wish to use, that decision has to be
made very quickly. So if there’s no plan in place, your family will be handed a list of funeral providers in
the area. And your family members will most likely choose whom ever sounds the nicest to them on the
phone. It doesn’t really matter what their pricing is when they’re making that decision, because it is
based on emotions, not on logic at that moment in time.
Now, what we see most often is that families are indecisive, because they may not have any idea what your choice is, burial or cremation. I have seen families have large disagreements. I’ve seen families have disagreements that lasted for a very long time.
What I do know is that they engage in emotional spending, because they are grieving. I’ve
seen families oftentimes go into debt to buy funerals that they feel that they should buy, because they
are doing emotional spending. We know that they are probably going to buy a funeral that is more than
you would want them to spend. And we also know that they are going to question for a very long time
afterwards. Whether they did the right thing, did they make the right choice?
Did they make the choice that you would have wanted? Grief and the loss of a loved one is a great burden to bear. Do we want to
compound that with all of these burdens of indecision, financial burden, when all of this could be taken
care of with a simple pre plan that takes about a half hour to do. It is truly truly simple to take care of
