What Are Veterans Entitled To When They Die?

What are veterans entitled to when they die? There are many veterans who are under the impression that the Veterans Administration will pay for their cremation or funeral plans with a funeral home.

This is absolutely not the case. What the Veterans Administration will give you is a burial space in a national cemetery. It will pay for the opening and closing of that burial space. If you are buried in a casket, they will provide a liner or vault for the casket. And they will also provide a marker or headstone for the grave. Now, this is of course, in a national cemetery, as I stated, but this benefit is for the veteran, and for their spouse.

I would suggest that you look up va.gov, look under benefits, and then under burial benefits, so that you can confirm this information. It’s very important that you understand that the Veterans Administration will not pay for cremation and will not pay for funeral costs.
